NCAA Tournament Observations
Winthrop & Davidson prepare for Vols, Buckeyes

"As soon as Ohio State's No. 2 seed flashed on the projection screen TV, two boys screamed "We want a rematch!" referring to Davidson's 69-64 loss to the Buckeyes in the first round of the NCAA tournament in 2002..."

Also, here's an old blog entry from some Observer guy.

-----------

By the way The Charlotte Observer SUCKS. It amazes me how little coverage they give Davidson. It is quite ridiculous. We make the NCAA tournament, and the above little article is all we get. UNCC made the NIT, (woop-tee-do), and they get more coverage in the paper than you can shake a stick at. It just really gets my blood boiling. Absolutely unbelievable.

-----------

Here's the Observer's shakedown on the Minneapolis region.
15. Davidson
RECORD: 20-10, 10-5 Southern
BID: Automatic
BEST WIN: 100-94 vs. St. Joseph's
WORST LOSS: 84-71 at Wofford
KEY PLAYERS: Brendan Winters (17.2 ppg), Ian Johnson (15.7 ppg, 6.2 rpg); Jason Morton (10.9 ppg), Kenny Grant (6.6 apg)
LAST 10 GAMES: 7-3
BEAT WRITER'S TAKE: Wildcats have experience, but struggle against physical, athletic teams who play pressure defense. Grant must avoid mistakes. Davidson uses several lineups where all five players on the floor can hit 3-pointers, and that allows the Wildcats to spread out defenses. The team's good free-throw shooting (76 percent) could be a factor. -- KEVIN CARY, CHARLOTTE OBSERVER
