Heels' mid-major concern

Losses by Kentucky to Gardner-Webb, Georgia Tech to UNC Greensboro and Southern California to Mercer demonstrated how dangerous mid-major conference teams can be.Williams said his players respect Davidson, but said the Wildcats have extra motivation as a mid-major. He said his challenge is to get his players to match that motivation.

"It's hard being Davidson in this state, knowing how much attention particularly Duke and North Carolina get," Williams said. "And they feel that they're pretty doggone good, and rightfully so."

Perimeter favors Wildcats?

North Carolina's scholarship players shot 3-for-16 on 3-point attempts over two exhibitions. Davidson made 19 3s in its season-opening win against Emory.

"They have some shooters that can really knock it down out there," said North Carolina forward Danny Green.
