Davidson defeats rival Charleston, 81-73

Wildcats subdue Cougars
C of C drops sixth straight to Davidson

BY DAVID CARAVIELLO

DAVIDSON, N.C. - It's been a series defined by late heroics and tight finishes, and one much closer than Davidson's recent winning streak would suggest. So many times the College of Charleston has gone deep into the second half with the Wildcats. And so many times someone in red and black has made a play to win it.

Jason Morton's buzzer-beater in 2003. Matt McKillop's ice-water 3 in 2005, and Kenny Grant's last year. Now add to that list Thomas Sander, who scored 25 and followed Stephen Curry's missed layup with 49 seconds remaining to lift Davidson to an 81-73 victory over Charleston on Saturday night before a crowd of 4,254 at Belk Arena.
